In conjunction with the revision of the Electrical Appliance and Material Control Law and the coming into force of the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law in April of 2001, JET was accredited by the government as the sole domestic inspection body that is qualified to conduct inspections of the conformity of Specified Electrical Appliance electrical products with the requirements of these statutes. Undergoing a conformity assessment is a requirement for selling electrical appliances in Japan, and accordingly, JET responds to requests for inspections from overseas manufacturers.

Water-supply utensil exported to Japan is subject to the Water Works Law, and consequently, without certification it cannot be sold in Japan. Electrical products that are subject to these requirements (including Electric water heaters, Electric water coolers, Electric dishwashers, Automatic washing and drying toilets) can simultaneously be granted certification
and be inspected for conformity assessment under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law. |

With regard to photovoltaic systems,
JET began registration of system
interconnection devices linking solar modules installed on residential
houses with electric power company systems in 1993. In addition,
JET
began calibration service for a secondary reference solar cell
in 2002 and
certification of photovoltaic modules in April of 2003. In the
future,
JET will certify entire systems from PV modules to system interconnection
protection devices.
